Coddling Isn't Love - It Says “I Don't Think You Can"
About this video
Your parents paid for it, fixed it, called ahead and smoothed it over, and you grew up quietly enraged at people who were supposedly so good to you. Coddling is not love. Underneath it is an unspoken message: I don't think you're capable.
In this video I show you why being rescued as a child arrests your development, why it leaves more rage behind than being yelled at, and what to do about it as an adult who still cannot make himself do ordinary adult things.
The frameworks are my own. The Worst Day Cycle™ maps how childhood trauma moves through fear, shame and denial and installs the emotional blueprint you are still running. The Authentic Self Cycle™ is the way back out through truth, responsibility, healing and forgiveness. The Emotional Authenticity Method™ is the six step process that rewires that blueprint at the root instead of managing the symptoms.
Coddling carries a hidden message, and the message is I don't think you're capable. Underneath the rescuing is severe neglect, abandonment and rejection, because a parent who never lets you fail is a parent who never lets you find out what you can do.
The rescuing parent fixes everything so the child never suffers a consequence, and they do it under the guise of being a nice, loving parent who cares. The real reason is that they need the child dependent so they never have to face how little they know about running their own life.
The rage comes from the lie. The child is told that being managed was love, and the body knows it was not. That contradiction, held for twenty or thirty years, is what produces the self-doubt and the quiet fury that adult children of emotionally immature parents cannot explain.
Arrested development is not a character flaw. It is what happens when a child is never allowed to fail, pick themselves up, and find their own solutions, so the skills that make an adult an adult were never built.
