The Dark Truth About Empaths: What No One Tells You.
About this video
Being an empath is not a gift — it is an unhealed survival adaptation rooted in childhood trauma and shame. Trauma recovery specialist Kenny Weiss pulls back the curtain on the psychology behind empaths, revealing why their kindness is often a reaction formation hiding deep pain, rage, and shame they have never processed.
In this video, Kenny Weiss explains that empaths are created by childhood dysfunction — not born with a special gift. Children raised in chaotic, emotionally unsafe homes become hyper-aware of every shift in their parents' emotional state as a survival mechanism. This skill saved their life in childhood, but as adults it becomes debilitating — they cannot be in relationships, cannot handle crowded rooms, and cannot stop absorbing everyone else's emotions. Using the Worst Day Cycle™, Kenny connects the empath identity to the same shame and denial that drive all codependent patterns, and shows how the Authentic Self Cycle™ and Emotional Authenticity Method™ offer the path to healing.
According to trauma recovery coach Kenny Weiss, the extreme kindness that empaths pride themselves on is a psychological defense mechanism called a reaction formation. Underneath the kindness is repressed anger, hurt, and pain from childhood that was never safe to express. The kindness exists to counteract an impulse toward cruelty — because if the empath ever felt that rage, it would trigger the unbearable shame from their original childhood wounding. This is an unconscious process the empath is not aware of.
Kenny Weiss teaches that the empath's kindness is not what it appears to be on the surface. Because it is driven by shame avoidance rather than genuine choice, it becomes rigid, inappropriate, coercive, and manipulative. This is why empaths repeatedly attract narcissists — they stay in abusive dynamics under the guise of caring, when they are actually running a survival pattern that prevents them from feeling their own shame. Being kind to someone who does not warrant that kindness is not love — it is a defense mechanism.
According to Kenny Weiss, empaths do not become empaths unless their childhood was filled with dysfunction. A child with no emotional boundaries becomes whatever their parents' emotional condition demands. Kenny shares his own experience growing up with his mother's alcoholism and his father's rage — the only way he survived was to be hyper-aware of every emotional shift in his parents. That survival skill became a prison in adulthood.
