If you and your partner go to dinner and you order a calzone while they order pizza, no one was rejected; both people pursued what they wanted. The same is true in dating, work, and friendship. The story of rejection is something we add on top of a neutral choice, almost always to confirm a childhood belief that we were not lovable.
Kenny Weiss teaches that inadequacy is the easiest of the three fears to conquer because the antidote is concrete — knowledge, then skills, then tools. Knowledge alone produces a measurable emotional shift, which is why learning is one of the fastest exits from depression. Practicing the knowledge until it becomes a skill, and using the skill until it becomes a reflex tool, is the developmental path most people skip when chasing motivation, mantras, or willpower-based self-help.
According to Kenny Weiss, powerlessness is created by three patterns — the inability to say no, the habit of giving yourself away to be liked, and the obsessive focus on what you cannot control. The single most important question to ask, every minute of the day, is what can I control.
