About this video

Parental alienation destroys children's emotional development and creates lifelong relationship damage. Trauma recovery specialist Kenny Weiss shares the four signs of parental alienation, the devastating long-term effects on children, and his own experience as an alienated parent.

Parental alienation happens when one parent systematically turns a child against the other through bad-mouthing, manipulation, and control. Kenny Weiss identifies four signs: negative words or actions toward the other parent, getting the child to reject the other parent, sabotaging the relationship through spying and withholding information, and sabotaging visitation and contact. The alienating parent often believes they are protecting the child, but the science shows they are causing severe emotional harm that follows that child into adulthood. This is the Worst Day Cycle™ playing out across generations.

Trauma recovery coach Kenny Weiss explains that parental alienation is rooted in unhealed childhood trauma in the alienating parent. The parent who alienates typically carries tremendous shame, self-loathing, and unprocessed pain from their own childhood. Their falsely empowered rage and control is a survival persona masking how powerless they feel inside. They co-opt the child into carrying their unhealed pain because the emotional burden is too large to process alone.

Kenny Weiss teaches that alienated children develop Stockholm syndrome — bonding with the controlling parent as a survival mechanism. The child genuinely believes their hatred of the targeted parent is their own idea, creating a false reality of denial and self-deception. This mirrors the Worst Day Cycle™ pattern of Trauma → Fear → Shame → Denial.

The long-term effects of parental alienation on children include depression, anxiety, addiction, substance abuse, insomnia, PTSD, increased suicide risk, low self-esteem, extreme trust and relationship issues, and insecure attachment styles. Kenny Weiss's Authentic Self Cycle™ and Emotional Authenticity Method™ offer both alienating and alienated parents a path to healing through truth, responsibility, and forgiveness rather than blame.
