The Inner Wounded Child - Understanding the 2 Types
About this video
The inner wounded child is the emotional blueprint created in your first five years of life — before you had the cognitive ability to process what was happening to you. In this video, Kenny Weiss explains the two types of the inner wounded child (the wounded child and the adapted wounded child), how each one forms, and why understanding them is the key to breaking free from repeating emotional and relationship patterns.
Every person develops a wounded child state from the abandonment, neglect, and shame that are unavoidable parts of childhood — even in loving families. This wounded child absorbs the emotional patterns of the disempowered parent (helplessness, powerlessness, boundary-lessness, victim identity) and the falsely empowered parent (rage, control, wall-building, sarcasm as veiled aggression). The adapted wounded child then emerges between ages 6 and 17, when logic and reason develop, and the child builds a survival persona to navigate the family system — a false adaptation that most people spend the rest of their lives confusing with their authentic self.
Kenny breaks down the specific characteristics of each type: the disempowered wounded child who becomes the people-pleaser, empath, love addict, and enabler; and the falsely empowered adapted wounded child who becomes the controller, over-achiever, and what society often mislabels as a narcissist when it is actually severe codependence. He explains why the falsely empowered codependent is the model our culture celebrates as "success" — and why that success is built on the same self-loathing and shame as the disempowered collapse. Understanding these two types reveals exactly how your Worst Day Cycle™ was created and where the healing process begins through the Authentic Self Cycle™.
