The eye roll, the exasperated sigh, the daily moments of unmet emotional need — each one teaches the child to suppress, repress, minimize, and condone. The suppressed parts become the survival persona the adult lives from. Discovering the true self is not invention; it is excavation.
Kenny Weiss teaches a four-step somatic-tracing process to find where the authentic self separated. First, identify the recurring feeling using a feelings list. Second, locate where it sits in your body. Third, trace your most recent memory of that sensation. Fourth, walk it backward in time, memory by memory, until it lands in childhood — that is the moment the inherent self was first overridden. From there the five-part repair sequence rebuilds the new neural pathway and lets the authentic self come forward.
According to Kenny Weiss, feelization is the step where the true self is finally felt. Sit with the question: "Who would I be if this pain were gone — what would be left over?" The answer almost every client gives is the same: free, light, strong, safe, powerful, quiet, protected. That cluster of feelings IS the authentic self. The work is to sit in those sensations until the body builds a new chemical addiction to who you actually are, replacing the addiction to the survival persona's pain.
Kenny Weiss explains that self-forgiveness is the final stage because shame is what keeps the survival persona running. Most adults carry the buried interpretation that they "deserved" the original wound, and that shame loops every time they recognize how often they have repeated the pattern. Forgiveness is owning the fact that you did the best you could without instruction, and now, with new awareness, you have a choice for the first time. From that ground the authentic self can finally lead.
