According to trauma recovery coach Kenny Weiss, the body stores emotional trauma in tissue, not in thought. When a childhood feeling is never processed, the brain fires the same chemical pattern repeatedly until it becomes the nervous system's default — a chemical addiction to pain that drives adult decisions decades later. Until that addiction is rewired through felt experience, no thought-based program produces lasting change because cognition is downstream of the original emotional install.
Kenny Weiss teaches a four-step somatic-tracing process to locate the origin of any trapped emotion. First, identify the feeling using a feelings list. Second, locate where it sits in your body. Third, identify your most recent memory of that exact sensation. Fourth, walk the feeling backward in time, memory by memory, until it lands in childhood. That earliest moment is where the emotional chemical addiction was first imprinted, and it is the only place real rewiring can begin.
According to Kenny Weiss, the repair sequence has five steps. Empathy and grief — feel the sadness most adults have minimized for decades, and give the pain back to the parent, sibling, coach, or teacher who placed it. Reclamation — recover the inherent self that existed before the wound. Rage — write a feelings-focused letter ("I felt humiliated, discarded, insignificant, ignored, abandoned") and physically discharge the stored energy. Feelization — sit in the felt experience of free, light, strong, safe, powerful. Self-forgiveness — release the shame of having repeated the pattern in adulthood, because no one ever taught you another way.
Kenny Weiss explains that suppressed rage and unprocessed grief are documented drivers of chronic illness — fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, migraines, autoimmune disease, even ALS. Candace Pert's research documented emotion stored at the cellular level, and Gabor Maté's "When the Body Says No" mapped how an inability to say no predicts ALS in over 95% of cases. The body keeps the score until the emotion is felt and released.
