According to Kenny Weiss, stress is not a neutral biological event — it is the activation of the fight-or-flight response, and fight-or-flight is fear. When a person says "I'm stressed," what is actually happening is that their nervous system has been triggered into a survival state by a present-day situation that matches an unresolved childhood emotional blueprint. Every medical definition of stress contains the fight-or-flight response at its center, which means every stress response is fundamentally an emotional condition, not a circumstantial one.
Trauma recovery coach Kenny Weiss teaches that every fear reaction — and therefore every stress response — reduces to one of three core fears: the fear of rejection, the fear of inadequacy (believing you do not have the skills, tools, or knowledge to handle the situation), and the fear of powerlessness. Kenny Weiss calls this the RIP framework: Rejection, Inadequacy, Powerlessness. Whenever a person is stressed, one or more of these three fears is being activated, and naming the specific fear is the first step out of the dysregulated state.

A disinterested partner walking in the door does not cause the fear response — the unhealed childhood experience of a parent who came home cold and rejecting causes it.
